Albania Second Rehearsal

The press centre is finally open! In a change to proceedings this year, first rehearsals have been held behind closed doors. Is this a sign of things to come? And will we see this approach replicated in the adult version of the contest? Time will only tell.

The first performance this morning is by Isea Cili for Albania with the song Mikja Ime Femijeri. It is about fond memories of her childhood, and wanting to hold on to the innocence of childhood for as long as possible. The imagery mirrors the lyrics with colourful rainbows lighting up the impressive Arena Gliwice. Vocals are shaky on the high notes, and too much of the song is in the upper range of her register leaving her with nowhere to go in the final chorus.

Albania are participating for the sixth time at Junior Eurovision, after their debut in 2012 and then consecutive appearances for the past five years. Their only top 10 placing was in 2015 when Mishela Rapo sang Dambaje in a mixture of Albanian, English and Imaginary languages.

David Webster will be reporting live from rehearsals throughout the day on Gateway 97.8 (www.gateway978.com). For UK commentary with ESC Insight's Ewan Spence and Ben Robertson, tune in to Castlepoint FM on Sunday 24th November from 15:00 GMT.
